There are many great drives around the world such as the Great Ocean Rd, Big Sur, Cinque Terre and the famous Route 66. None of them offer the food & wine experience of South Australia’s Route B34.

Start early in McLaren Vale with a walk on Sellicks Beach, followed by breakfast at the Willunga Markets, then enjoy the wines of the region’s many wineries including Chapel Hill, Coriole, Olivers and d’Arenberg. Time to begin the drive on B34 to the Adelaide Hills passing through the German settlement town of Hahndorf for a bratwurst before you savour the wares of the Hahndorf Hill, The Lane, Shaw & Smith and Deviation Rd wineries on your way to Balhannah, Woodside and Birdwood. The historic township of Birdwood is home to the National Motor Musem, if you like vehicles indulge yourself by stopping for a look before you get back on B34, direction, the Barossa. At Williamstown B34 becomes B31 as you begin to see the first vines. At Lyndoch the tapestry of food and wine which is the Barossa lies before you. Appelation, Vintners and Ferment Asian are setting new benchmarks in regional dining, whilst Yalumba, Rockford and Kaesler are but three of the many local wineries. There is so much to discover along route B34 you will want to turn around and make your way back to McLaren Vale in time for Red and Ribs at Chapel Hill. Enjoy!
