2019 House Block Shiraz
Sourced from some of our oldest vines, the House Block shows the impact of ancient geology
Title: The Wine Front by Campbell Mattinson
Description: Those sweet chocolatey flavours, that dip into coffee, that plum-soaked shore. This is adult jelly bean territory, seductive, I-will-but-I-shouldn’t, molasses-like, dark, if you fell into it you’d never been seen again. I like it. It’s more ferrous than savoury; both sweet and earthen. Ripeness has been well and truly pushed but its legs 0of fruit, of tannin – feel firm and strong.
Award Date Description: April 2022
Rating: 94 / 100
Hand-picked, crushed, destemmed, open ferment with neutral cultured yeast, 11 days on skins, basket-pressed, matured in French oak hogsheads (18% new) for 20 months. Chapel Hill is a shiraz specialist making multiple styles from the one region. House Block fits nicely into the friendly shiraz category, it's so easy to get to know. Upfront fruit power all the way charged by black berries, licorice, black olive savouriness and dark chocolate. Warm toasty oak caps off an archetypal Aussie shiraz.
